there's a site on Chinese hànzì (though it is helpful for students of Japanese, too): www.zhongwen.com
explanations there are quite short, but usually helpful. they follow the scientific etymology only vaguely, though, i think.
another difficulty is, that those Kanji are ordered according to their full form, which may cause problems if the Japanese version is a simplified form.

as for the adverbs. i don't think there's a list (or better to say: a dictionary) of adverbs anywhere on the web. use a basic dictionary. if you're talking about gitaigo/giongo (onomatopoeic words)... well, i didn't find an exaustive source, yet. but then i, too, would be interested ^^
