Subject: puzzled with this sentence

Normally I'd ask someone rather than bothering all of you with something like this, but being winter break, my roommate (who is more knowledgeable than I when it comes to Japanese) is away visiting his family, none of my professors are available, etc.
Anyway, I received an (electronic) Christmas card from a pen pal that I had this summer. Most of it I understood and made sense, but the middle part confused me. I've pasted the text below (with the names removed):
---
Dear (name)
こんにちは
クリスマスはいかがお過ごしですか?
私は???。
年始は喪中のため
ご挨拶を控えさせていただきます。
それでは素敵なクリスマスと
良いお年を・・・。
(name) より
---
The lines I'm having difficulty with are the two lines beginning "年始..." -- I looked up all the words but can't seem to put the sentence together. (That, and I appear to have forgotten my grammar dictionary when I packed for break.) The best I can come up with is "In this time of mourning, please accept my New Year's greetings." That just doesn't quite sound right nor fit in my opinion, but I'm not sure what the "させて" does (I've seen it before but never had a chance to look it up) nor do I know if I'm connecting those words properly (or even using the correct definitions).
Also, I was wondering what the "より" after the name in the signature meant.
Thanks, and happy holidays!
