Subject: 太い and 太る

太い (futoi) and 太る (futoru) are quite different. The former means for a one-dimensional thing to be thick, and the latter means for an animate to get weight. The continuous form of the latter, 太っている (futotte iru), means for an animate to be fat. You can't say 太い子.
