午前 (ごぜん) is a.m. and 午後 (ごご) is p.m., but they are more logical than the English terms. 午前 starts at midnight and 午後 starts at noon, and both of them have 12 hours, from 0 () to 12 時. English uses not 0 but 12, such as 12 a.m. and 12 p.m., which makes them hard to understand.

24 hoursJapaneseEnglish
1:00午前 1 時1 a.m.
11:00午前 11 時11 a.m.

午前 and 午後 start at 0:00 and end at 12:00.
