やつ can also be used for inanimate objects. Example sentence from Shogakukan:
この上着（うわぎ）は小さすぎるからもっと大きいやつを見せてくれ
This jacket is too small for me. Show me a larger one.
Be careful, that sentence is pretty casual, so don't say it to people other than your friends.
